Requirements

  • All pupils must be 17 years or older and  have a UK provisional driving license
  • Be able to read a registration plate at 20m


Theory Test

The test is in two parts, multiple choice questions and Hazard Perception Test(HPT).
You have to answer correctly a minimum of 43 out of 50 on multiple choice.

The HPT consists of 15 video clips each 1 minute long. On 14 clips there is 1 hazard and on 1 clip there is 2 hazards. Each hazard has a maximum score of 5 and a minimum of 0. To pass the HPT you need to score a minimum of 44 out of 75.

Theory test fee costs £25

On passing the Theory test you receive a certificate for passing which is required when booking your practical test

Practical Test

The practical test  lasts for  about 45 minutes with an examiner.During the test you will have to demostrate to the examiner that you can drive the car safely in a business like manner.You will be asked to do 1 manoeuvre and 10 minutes of independent driving. You will be shown a diagram of a route to follow or given 3 instructions or asked to follow road signs to a certain place. You will then drive for 10 minutes remembering where you are going. If you forget the instructions or which direction you should take the examiner will tell you but ask in plenty of time and they will not fault you. They will only fault you on your driving skills not your navigation skills.

To pass your Practical test you must not gain 16 minor faults or more, no serious or dangerous faults during the test. 

Practical test fee is £62 weekday £75 weekend

Once you pass your test you are for 2 years from date of test on probation.During the 2 years if  you acquire 6 penalty points or more you license will be revoked back to provisional. You will then have to re-take the theory and practical test.
